PIA to purchase eight new Boeing 787 planes

Chairman PIA Azam Sehgal while speaking to this scribe confirmed the news and said that eight 787 aeroplanes will be purchased from Boeing on easy installments.

The state-of-the-art planes are fuel efficient and have the capacity to carry 400 passengers. Sehgal said that the planes will be received from mid-June 2017 onwards which will increase the size of the airline’s fleet.

PIA will also start the premier service from Karachi to London from October.

Moreso, PIA will receive two Airbus 330 aeroplanes between October and December, after which it will increase flights to Bangkok, Germany and Barcelona, while flights to other international destinations will also be gradually increased.

The new aeroplanes will provide better modern services and facilities to passengers, and also increase revenue for the fledgling national airline which is currently facing massive losses.

Also, two Airbus 310 aeroplanes will be retired from service after the current Hajj operation. PIA will continue to retire old aeroplanes and gradually replace them with new modern planes.
