PM forms committee with intent to empower women

Federal Minister for Climate Change, Zahid Hamid was appointed as the deputy convener of the committee comprising of Saira Afzal Tarar, Anusha Rehman, Khawaja Zaheer Ahmed, Ashter Ausaf, Shaista Pervez Malik, Aisha Farooq, Irum Bukhari, Aijaz Muneer and the cabinet secretary.

The committee will present its recommendations to the premier on March 5.

The move appears to show government’s seriousness towards resolution of women issues, especially domestic violence.

Earlier, the Punjab Assembly unanimously passed Women Protection Bill, which was signed into a law by the governor, providing enough rights to women, who have largely been seen as subdued in the country for decades.
