KARACHI: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Sunday arrived in Karachi for the first time since he assumed office of the country’s chief executive.
He touched down at Karachi airport where Sindh Governor Imran Ismail and Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah greeted him.
From there, he was flown to the mausoleum of the father of the nation, Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, via helicopter. He laid a floral wreath and offered fateha.
Afterwards, he wrote his impressions in the visitors’ book.
Later, the prime minister met President Arif Alvi and the governor as well as chief minister of the province at the State Guest House.
He presided over a meeting on law and order and got a briefing from Sindh police chief Syed Kaleem Imam on the current security situation.
The premier was also briefed on on-going federal government’s development projects in the city.
Over the course of his daylong visit, the prime minister would attend an event at Governor House to raise funds for the construction of dams.
He would also chair a party leaders’ meeting to discuss the special development packages for Karachi and other cities of the province. The premier would also meet a delegation of business community leaders.
On Friday, Minister for Maritime Affairs Syed Ali Zaidi said that Prime Minister Imran Khan is arriving in Karachi with a “good news.”
Talking to media at Karachi airport, the minister said that Karachi’s development is on top of PTI government’s agenda, adding that the PM will arrive in the city with good news.
President Dr Arif Alvi also arrived in the metropolis and paid a visit to the Quaid’s mausoleum on Saturday.
