PM inaugurates first unit of Sahiwal Coal Power Project

SAHIWAL: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday inaugurated the first 660-megawatt unit of Sahiwal Coal Power Project, ARY News reported.

The prime minister inaugurated the first unit of the two-unit coal power project with a total generation capacity of 1320 MW and is one of the early harvest projects of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The project said to be already connected to the national power grid.

Nawaz Sharif after inauguration of the power plant visited various sections of the plant. Governor of Punjab Rafique Rajwana and Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif were also accompanied with the prime minister.

The annual power generation from the power project is expected to exceed nine billion kWh, which will significantly contribute in alleviating chronic energy crisis in the country.

The project company has fixed a target completing the second unit of the project in the next month.
