KARACHI: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) will never play the role as genuine opposition and will often support the ruling party, said Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Rana Sanaullah.
“PPP will never play the role of a genuine opposition. Sometimes they will support us on certain issues and sometimes facilitate the government like it did today (in presidential elections) and in the election of prime minister,” he said speaking to ARY News.
The former Punjab law minister was asked whether the divisions will remain within the opposition parties particularly after failing to nominate a joint candidate in the presidential elections, thereby giving a walkaway victory to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate Arif Alvi.
He said that there was no alliance between the PPP, PML-N and the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA), but instead all parties were united over reservations in the general elections and demanded a parliamentary commission to probe alleged rigging.
He
said that there can be no way forward if all opposition parties are united against the government, but instead the PPP was a obstacle and was sitting on the opposition benches but siding with the PTI.
Regarding his statement that PPP’s candidate presidential Aitzaz Ahsan was not the ‘representative of democratic forces’, he said that PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari had several compulsions and had formed the government in Sindh which was their first priority.
Instead he said that the PPP will never play the role of the real opposition, and will support the opposition on certain issues and the sometimes side with the government.
He said that PML-N will play the role of the real opposition. When asked if Maulana Fazlur Rehman was the ideal choice as the presidential candidate, he said his nomination shows that the PML-N and MMA were united and both parties will gain from this alliance.
