ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Kissan Ittehad on Thursday held a consultative meeting with parliamentarians to discuss problems faced by the agriculture sector, ARY News reported.
Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Sahibzada Muhammad Mehboob Sultan said the agriculture was the government’s top priority as this particular sector was being neglected in the past.
He vowed the government would bring agricultural revolution in the country.
The minister said the next budget will lay special focus on agriculture and grant for the sector would be significantly increased.
He said rice cultivators got better price this season.
Member National Assembly, and Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Parliamentary Coordination, Nadeem Afzal Chan said parliamentarians must raise their voice for the rights of peasants, and also called upon them to raise issues of farmers on their party forums.

The country’s survival is dependent on the farmers, he stated. Chan said a comprehensive policy should be devised regarding agriculture.
Fehmida Mirza said concerted efforts were needed to address issues faced by peasants and the overall agriculture sector. She sought formation of agriculture policy based on seasonal changes.
In December last year, the farmers of Punjab under banner of Pakistan Kissan Ittehad had launched a march in Lahore to press on their demands. They demanded manure and urea to be sold at their old rates. They also wanted the government to announce the rate for sugarcane so they can begin selling it.
