Police bust two gangs, recover Rs5.6mn in Sadiqabad

SADIQABAD: Police on Saturday busted two gangs and recovered Rs5.6 million from them in Sadiqabad, ARY News reported.

Addressing a press conference, Sadiqabad Assistant Superintendent Police (ASP) Hafeezur Rehman said the recovered cash amount, two tractors and nine motorcycles had been handed over to their owners.

He said a fraud in the name of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) was also exposed in the city.

Hafeezur Rehman said swindler Farooq Chandya, who used to withdraw money from BISP accounts, has been arrested. “Rs9.6 million has been recovered from the suspect and the money is being distributed among the real owners of the money,” he said.

The Sadiqabad ASP said police would not let any gang cheat poor families.

April 13, police had claimed to have busted a gang of robbers who used to loot people by impersonating as security personnel.

According to police, the Saddar police had arrested five members of a gang that used to rob people of their valuables and cash wearing uniforms of security personnel. They were also involved in breaking into houses in the city and looting jewellery.

A police official had said Rs900,000 in cash and ornaments were seized from the possession of the held robbers. Arms and ammunition, including two Kalashnikovs, a pistol and security personnel’s uniforms were also recovered from their possession.
