Political circles offer condolences and tributes to Edhi

The President said that the humanitarian services will always be remembered and those working in the field of social services should be proud to work in the footsteps of Edhi. He sent his condolence message and prayed to Allah Almighty for the salvation of the departed soul and grant his family patience and forbearance. 

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif termed the death of Abdul Sattar Edhi an irreparable loss for the people of Pakistan, and said that he was the real manifestation of love for those who were socially vulnerable, impoverished, helpless and poor.

The premier had earlier announced a day of mourning,  posthumous Nishan-i-Imtiaz and a state funeral,  and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul.

He expressed his regret at not been able to attend his funeral and said that although he wished to be present in person, he was unable to do so due to his present position and health. He had reportedly sent a representative to be available at the funeral. 

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar paid glowing tributes to Abdul Sattar Edhi and said there is no parallel of the selfless services rendered by him for the sake of humanity.  He said that the philanthropist spent a simple life and his legacy is a beacon of light for all of us to carry out the social work and serve the humanity. Dar said that the entire nation is aggrieved over the demise of Edhi.

Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif who attended the funeral of Edhi has expressed grief and sorrow over the demise of prominent social worker and community leader. 

He sympathized and expressed condolence with the bereaved family and said that he was always impressed by the simple life and personality. He said that Eidi had taught how to help the needy and stand with the poor and serve the humanity, and was a national hero and a man of character

The golden period of service of humanity has ended with the demise of Eidi. He said that the deceased was a legend who had devoted his life for serving people in need. He announced that a main road of Lahore will be named after the name of Abdul Sattar Edhi. 

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has also expressed his profound grief on the sad demise on Abdul Sattar Edhi and announced a three-day mourning in the province.

Several national and Political leaders have also expressed deep grief and sorrow over the sad demise of social worker Abdul Sattar Edhi. Expressing grief over his death, Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani said late Edhi was an institute for human services. He said the space of great personality Abdul Sattar Edhi cannot be filled.

National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq expressed his deep grief and sorrow over the sad demise of the legendary social worker. Sadiq has said that we have lost the prodigious human but his legacy of serving humanity will never be ended.  He said Edhi’s contribution to social welfare is irreplaceable, adding that his efforts will always be remembered.

Deputy Speaker Murtaza Javed Abbasi also expressed his condolences and eulogized services of late Edhi for humanity.

Former Punjab Chief Minister and PML-Q leader Pervaz Elahi said that the national and humanitarian services of Edhi prove that wealth and riches are not necessary to dedicate ourselves for the service of mankind. He said that Edhi had advised him to establish the Rescue 1122 services which was an example for the current government of Punjab. He stressed that it was the moral duty of successive government to carry the message of Edhi and they will remain indebted to him for this services.

Former President Gen. (retd) Pervez Musharaff said that Edhi served the cause of humanity without any discrimination and deserved to receive the Nobel Peace Prize more than anyone else a long time ago.

Tahir-ul-Qadri of the Pakistan Awami Tehrik (PAT) said that the vacuum created by the demise of Edhi will be very difficult to fill.

Another renowned social worker Ramzan Chippa paid a befitting tribute and said that He said that Edhi spread the message of love, peace and humanity for all people.

Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has also expressed grief on the death of Abdul Sattar Edhi. In a tweet, she offerted heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and the Edhi Foundation.
