PPIB approves 4250 MW coal fired power projects

ISLAMABAD: Private Power & Infrastructure Board (PPIB) on Wednesday approved the processing of coal fired power projects that would generate 4250 Mega Watt (MW) electricity, ARY News reported.

During PPIB’s meeting the offer to establish coal based power project from private companies came under consideration and later the board approved the processing of these projects after the completion of the required formalities.

According to an official statement, the PPIB has received a very encouraging response from the private sector with prominent local and international investors showing an interest in developing coal based power projects in the country at locations other than Gadani Power Park as well.

These include HUBCO (660MW), Global Benefit Malaysia (660MW), Giga Energy (420MW), Yunus Brothers/Lucky Cement (660MW), Asiapak Hong Kong (2x660MW), Siddiqsons Group (330MW) and Asia Petroleum (200MW).
These power plants are proposed at various locations that include Hub, Port Qasim, Karachi coastal area, Faisalabad, Gharo and Jamshoro.

Addressing the board meeting, Minister for Water and Power, Khawaja Asif said that government has also invited the private companies, who were going to develop power projects to draw transmission lines as well for which policy will be disclosed soon.
