PPP begins election preparation in Punjab

KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) began preparation for the upcoming elections in Punjab, ARY News reported on Thursday citing sources.

According to sources with PPP, the party co-chairman and former president Asif Ali Zardari and chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari directed Punjab party members to complete the preparation for elections. 

The party meetings are taking place in Zardari house, Bilawal house and Gillani house and they are in contact with party workers across Punjab.

The tickets for 97 provincial assembly seats will be finalized in the PPP parliamentary board meeting.

The parliamentary board meeting will be held today at 3 pm. Faryal Talpur, the parliamentary board and PPP Punjab leaders will participate in the meeting. 

Earlier, the Election Commission of Pakistan announced the schedule for elections in Punjab which are to be held on May 14 as directed by the Supreme Court.

The ECP also withdrew its earlier schedule regarding the holding of general elections in Punjab in October.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Supreme Court nullified the electoral watchdog’s decision about the delay in holding polls in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and fixed May 14 as the date for polls in the province.
