PPP to support PTI for creation of South Punjab province: Gilani

KOT MITHAN: Senior leader of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Yousuf Raza Gilani on Friday extended his party’s support to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for creation of South Punjab Province.

Talking to the media men after paying respects at Darbar Fareed today in Pakpattan, former prime minister and PPP’s senior leader, Yousuf Raza Gilani said, “PPP will support PTI for transforming South Punjab region into a province.”

He said PPP has always served masses and added we will support every move of creating South Punjab province, an old demand of the people living in the area.

Gilani urged masses to follow footprints of Sufis for peace and harmony in the country.

It is pertinent to mention here that Prime Minister Imran Khan, on December 4, had directed the concerned authorities to set up South Punjab secretariat by mid-2019.

He also discussed administrative matters regarding creation of new province of South Punjab during a high-level meeting.

Whereas, Minister for Planning Khusro Bakhtiyar, on the occasion gave a detailed briefing about social and economic facts pertaining to the South Punjab.

The district government, on November 24, had proposed two sites for the south Punjab secretariat.

According to recommendations sent to the provincial government, the district government had suggested a new complex at 584 kanals and 19 marlas on Mati Tal Road, said sources.

While the other suggested location for the secretariat is in the possession of Pakistan Cotton Committee and is owned by the provincial government on Old Shujaabad Road. The 291 kanals and 12 marlas piece is already being used for cotton research propose.
