ISLAMABAD: Outgoing Director General Inter-Services Intelligence Lt. General Naveed Mukhtar on Monday paid a farewell call on President Dr Arif Alvi.

President Alvi commended the services of Lt. Gen Naveed Mukhtar as the head of the premier intelligence agency.

He also praised the professionalism and leadership qualities of Lt. Gen Naveed Mukhtar in discharge of his responsibilities. He said ISI had rendered remarkable services in the defence of the motherland and fight against terrorism.

The president also expressed his good wishes for Lt. Gen Naveed Mukhtar and his family in their future life.

Earlier, DG ISI Lt. Gen Naveed Mukhtar paid farewell call on Prime Minister Imran Khan at the Prime Minister Office.

The prime minister appreciated the meritorious services of Lt. Gen Mukhtar for the country during his military career especially as DG ISI.

PM Khan also expressed his best wishes for his post retirement life. Lt. Gen Naveed Mukhtar thanked the prime minister for his expression and best wishes.

It is pertinent to mention here that Lt. General Asim Munir has been appointed the new DG ISI as Lt Gen Mukhtar steps down on October 25.

Traditionally, the coveted slot of DG ISI, considered the most powerful after the army chief’s post, goes to a three-star general with a considerable experience of the field.

The outgoing DG ISI Lt is a graduate of the Command and Staff College Quetta. He assumed the charge of country’s premier spy agency on December 11, 2016.

He commanded a mechanised division and served as director general of Rangers before being promoted to the rank of lieutenant general and was posted as corps commander of Karachi in September 2014.
