PSL 5 kicks off with glitzy opening ceremony

KARACHI: The fifth edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL) kicked off with a giltzy opening ceremony at Karachi’s National Stadium, ARY News reported.

A large number of people attended the opening ceremony while millions watched at home as, for the first time, the whole edition of Pakistan’s own Twenty20 league will now be played at home.

The fans in the stadium enjoyed performances from renowned artists like Abrar-ul-Haq, Aima Baig, Abu Mohammad, Fareed Ayaz, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Sajjad Ali, Sanam Marvi and rock band Soch will embellish the ceremony with their breath-taking performances, while Ali Azmat performed at the PSL 2020 anthem, Tayyar Hain

.

The league’s first match is now being played between defending champions Quetta Gladiators and Islamabad United.

The tournament’s most popular team, Karachi Kings, will play its first match against Peshawar Zalmi on Friday, February 21,  at their home ground.

Overall 34 matches will be played between six PSL franchises. The tournament’s final will be played in Lahore on March 22.
