ISLAMABAD: Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Sardar Muhammad Yousuf on Thursday said that Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) should be given clearance to block websites containing blasphemous contents.
“The ministry received 8,670 letters as complaints against the appearance of blasphemous contents on the social media,” he said while addressing a news conference in Islamabad. He said that PTA was accordingly informed about this.

He said that action has been taken against
700 websites containing objectionable contents and out of these 565 have been blocked. He said that a cell is also working in the ministry to address the issue of objectionable contents on the internet.
Interior ministry spokesman, earlier this month, said that the Facebook administration has agreed to send a delegation to address reservations of the Pakistan government regarding blasphemous content on the social media.
He said that the Facebook administration has nominated a focal person for maintaining constant contact with the PTA.
