According to the stats revealed, out of target 103 million active SIMs, 75.5 million SIMs have been re-verified while 27.5 million active SIMs have been blocked. However, these SIMs can be unblocked by the owner by visiting any sale channel and performing successful biometric verification.
PTA has also issued directives that new SIMs, now can only be issued through the process of Biometric Verification System.
Government in collaboration with the telecom operators had launched SIMs biometric verification on January 13 as a step to curb terrorism in the country.
