LAHORE: As electoral battle has begun with almost all of the candidates aggressively pursuing election campaigns in their respective constituencies, but a candidate for the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) has sent a legal notice to a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader accusing him of stealing an election anthem the former he was using under his copyright.
The legal notice is served by Jabran Butt, an MMA candidate for PP-150 Lahore, to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) candidate for PP-189 Okara Rao Ali Jabran Bhopal.
He has accused the PTI leader for using the election song without his permission. According to the complainant, the anthem uses the first name – Jabran, in the lyrics of the song.
As per the notice sent to the PTI candidate, Butt’s lawyer alleges that the election anthem was stolen and used by Jabran Bhopal for his own campaign. The notice demands an unconditional apology as well as damages worth Rs20 million. The notice further said legal action would be initiated if the demands were not met within 10 days of the receipt of the notice.
Butt said he might have allowed the rival candidate to use the song if he had sought permission but doing it without authorization was inappropriate.
