PTI’s Qureshi says people of Punjab rejected PPP in July 25 polls

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Wednesday said that his party completely wiped out the rival Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) from Punjab province in July 25 elections, ARY News reported.

Addressing media after a meeting attended by PTI’s Punjab MPAs-elect chaired by chief Imran Khan, the PTI leader maintained that the voters rejected traditional and dynastic politics by voting for PTI against PPP and PML-N heavyweights.

“As far as PPP is concerned, this election proved that Punjab totally rejected the party and they could only managed to win 6 national assembly and 6 provincial assembly seats,” said Qureshi who himself was a part of PPP in the past.

Turning his guns on PTI’s main rival, the PML-N, Qureshi said that PML-N secured a lot of seats in Punjab Assembly but PTI beat them at popular vote.

“But still, with the inclusion of Independent MPAs, PTI has emerged as the biggest party in the Punjab Assembly as one needs support of 149 MPAs to form government while PTI has support of more than 164 MPAs,” added the PTI leader.

Earlier, during the meeting, PTI chief Imran Khan spoke to party’s MPAs-elect and congratulated them on their victory.

The PTI chief said that everyone predicted a PTI victory in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa but it was the Punjab fort the party wanted to conquer and it did with their efforts.

He urged the MPAs-elect to put in all efforts to serve the people of their respective constituencies so cement their strength in Punjab.

It is pertinent to note here that Imran Khan-led PTI has emerged as the largest party in federation, KP and now in Punjab as a result of July 25 general elections.

The party is set to form its government in both the province and in center.
