PTI gets another ECP deadline for submission of financial records

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday has once again extended the deadline for submission of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) financial records, ARY News reported.

Seeking detailed records, ECP has directed the PTI to provide the commission with the details of party funding.

A five-member bench of the Commission, headed by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sardar Muhammad Raza heard the case in Islamabad.

The CEC queried PTI counsel the motive behind evading submission of the records.

To which, the party lawyer replied that Islamabad High Court (IHC) has granted the party a two-week time for submission of the details and all records would be submitted within the time frame.

Hearing the reply, the chief election commissioner said that the PTI’s stance in the case could not be apprehended for last three years.

Subsequently, the bench adjourned the hearing till September 18 (next week) while stating that upon failure to submit the records, the bench would perceive all allegations against the party to be true.

Talking to media outside the ECP building, the Petitioner Akbar S. Babar said that the PTI had submitted bogus records pertain to party funding.

Appearing confident, he said the case would expose the PTI for concealing the party funding sources.

It merits to mention here that a petition was filed by a PTI former leader Akbar Babar, alleging that PTI Chief Imran Khan has committed contempt of court in his comments on the party funds, claiming that he had not apologized to the ECP over his comments instead his counsel did so in his personal capacity.
