LAHORE: Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Wednesday conducted a massive operation to crack down on food points violating food safety regulations along the route of Lahore-Islamabad motorway.
Food safety teams, under the supervision of Director General PFA Captain (R) Muhammad Usman visited the kitchens of several restaurants for inspecting food safety measures
The restaurants and fast food points were checked in the areas of Bhera, Chakri and Kalar Kahar.
Captain (R) Muhammad Usman said that PFA closed down a fast food outlet due to the use of expired cooking oil, improper cleanliness arrangements and other violations of PFA Act in the service area of Bhera.
He further said that another fast food outlet was ordered to pay Rs50,000 as fine over failure to maintain a hygienic working environment. “Vegetable, meat, cold drinks and other food products were preserved together in freezers in the fast food outlet,” said DG PFA.
The Punjab food Authority has been working as a functional entity in Lahore since July 2, 2012.
The authority enforces food hygiene and quality standards as described in the Punjab Food Authority Act 2011 and the Pure Food Rules 2011.
