Punjab govt orders survey to estimate damage caused by rains

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar said on Thursday the provincial government has issued directives for a comprehensive survey to estimate damage incurred by farmers owing to the recent rains across Punjab.

The chief minister in a message on his Twitter handle said the damage caused to the crops would be assessed.

“The Punjab government stands by its famers in these hard times,” he tweeted.

It is noteworthy that the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in a report had said at least 49 people were killed and 176 others injured in rain-related incidents across the country. It said floods caused by the rains wreaked havoc across the country.

According to the report, 15 people were killed in Punjab, 14 in Khyer Pakhtunkhwa, 11 in Balochistan and five in Sindh. At least 52 houses were damaged in Balochistan alone.

Apart from the human and property damages, the showers flattened standing wheat and other crops across the country.
