Qaim Ali Shah gets pre-arrest bail in illegal land allotment case

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has granted pre-arrest bail to former chief minister Sindh, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, in the case of illegal allotment of land, ARY News reported.

The court granted bail request and asked the Pakistan People’s Party leader to submit surety bond worth Rs 1 million. The SHC also asked Mr. Shah to cooperate with the National Accountability Bureau in the case.

The NAB is investigating the ‘illegal’ allotment of the Malir Development Authority land, and Shah has been named as one of the accused during the probe.

Earlier in his plea, the former chief minister said, “I have no issue with the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) conducting an investigation,” but requested that “I not be arrested.”

In the case hearing on Nov 5, Shah had reportedly refused to appear before the NAB and raised reservations over the bureau’s investigating officer, saying the NAB officer was targeting him over personal enmity.

The NAB is set to grill him at Karachi office in the case of transfer of several thousand acres of land in Malir. Currently the anti-graft body is investigating 19 corruption cases against important figures in Sindh.

Qaim Shah has thrice served as the chief minister of Sindh. Last time he  served as the CM for eight years in his two tenures, which is the longest in the province on this post.
