Court issues notices to Qamar Bajwa, Faiz Hameed

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued notices to the FIA, retired Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa and Faiz Hameed over a petition of violating legal bindings, ARY News reported on Monday.

The high court bench also issued notices to journalists, Javed Chaudhry, Shahid Maitla, PEMRA and the Press Association of Pakistan over a petition seeking registration of case in the FIA against Qamar Bajwa, Faiz Hameed and others.

Chief Justice Aamir Farooq issued written court order on petition of a citizen Atif Ali seeking registration of case in the FIA over flouting legal bindings after retirement and misinterpretation of various events.

“According to the petitioner he requested to the court for registration of case repeatedly, but no action taken”, the court order stated. “Petitioner lawyer sought an order to the FIA for filing a case and action over the matter,” court said.

Petitioner stated, ” Only for the sake of viewership two articles were written, which negatively influenced the society”. “I was surprised to see the articles, how a mafia polluting the society,” petition read.

“A criminal attitude surfaced in the name of the freedom of expression thus I applied for registration of case,” petitioner said.

“Different events were interpreted wrongfully and in a concocted manner and a negative picture of the institution was presented in articles in the name of journalism to invite the attention,” petitioner said.

“In context of these incidents, it was a bid to create mistrust between the public and the institutions,” petition read.

It pleaded to the court to issue directions to the director general of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to register an FIR.
