FM Qureshi, Oman minister discuss regional situation

MUSCAT: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi met Oman Minister of Royal Office General Sultan bin Mohammed al-Naamani on Wednesday, reported Radio Pakistan.

Both the dignitaries discussed bilateral ties as well as regional and international issues during the meeting. the prevailing situation in the region also came under discussion.

During his meeting, the foreign ministers said Pakistan and Oman enjoy historical brotherly relations. Qureshi will also attend Pak-Oman Joint Ministerial Commission meeting.

Apart from the foreign ministers of both the countries, representatives of various departments will also attend the joint ministerial commission meeting.

Earlier, upon his arrival in Muscat, Qureshi was received at the airport by his Omani counterpart Yusuf bin Alawi and senior officials of the Omani Foreign Ministry.

Speaking to media in Islamabad prior to his departure for Oman on Jan 29, the foreign minister had said he would represent Pakistan in the meeting of Pak-Oman Joint Ministerial Commission.

“Oman was an important country of the region and Pakistan and Oman enjoyed long-term and friendly relations,” he had added.

Qureshi had also said he would hold meetings with the Prime Minister of Oman as well. “Talks will be held to enhance cooperation in various sectors between the two countries. Both sides will also sign a Memorandum of Understanding.”

Before concluding his talk, the foreign minister had said that Pakistan would continue its positive role for regional peace and stability. “Will take the Omani leadership into confidence regarding situation in Afghanistan.”
