Rabi Pirzada’s Instagram after Pakistan-India clash sparks debate

LAHORE: Just after Pakistan team lost the Champions Trophy clash against India, Twitterati was fuming at the team’s performance.

A number of celebrities too criticised the board and the team’s overall performance against the arch rival but it was Rabi Pirzada’s Instagram post which left everyone thinking.

Though the criticism was too harsh and that it came from a celebrity also raised some eyebrows but a lot of people also agreed with the ‘Bano Killer’.

Here is the post

Rabi, after congratulating India over their victory, stated that we, Pakistanis should not blame our cricketers if we claim to love them anyway, a jab aimed at the song “Tum Jeeto Ya Haro Suno Hamein Tum Se Pyaar Haii”, the song our media plays after every loss.

But that was not what started the debate, it was Rabi’s suggestion about casting cricketers in commercials which divided the internet.

“If they are not getting enough money by losing the match you will cast them in so many commercials to sell washing ,powder beauty creams even toilet cleaners that they get relaxed emotionally, financially and even morally. This is time to wake up guys… tell them we respect you only if you bring respect to our country,” said Rabi.

HERE ARE SOME OF THE COMMENTS ON THE POST FROM HER FACEBOOK AND INSTAGRAM PROFILE

Some agreed with her while others said she is totally wrong.

Other than the comments, a number of social media activists seemed divided over her opinion. Some agreed that she is right and PCB must regulate and tell the players in clear terms that their first priority should be performing well on the pitch. Those who disagreed, said her post shows immaturity as doing advertisements does not mean that players do not respect their country or country men’s wishes.
