Rangers official Colonel Tahir Mehmood in a briefing told the Senate body meeting chaired by Senator Talha Mehmood, that extortion has decreased in the city.
The Rangers official said that 560 MQM workers have been arrested in operation. He said three target killers were arrested during the raid in Gulshan-i-Maymar on September 24. Other eight accused were wanted to police in different cases, he said.
The law enforcement agency conducted 373 raids at MQM workers and captured 241 arms, Rangers official said.
He said Rangers conducted 396 raids over People’s Aman Committee arresting 539 workers and captured 591 illegal weapons.
In the operation 40 workers of Awami National Party were arrested in 18 targeted raids and 21 weapons were captured, he further said.
Colonel Mehmood said that 403 targeted raids conducted against outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), arrested 760 suspects and 600 arms captured from their possession.
Moreover, 169 raids conducted against other banned outfits, 352 suspects were arrested with 463 weapons, Rangers official said.
Speaking about operation in Lyari, the Rangers official said incidents of kidnapping and extortion have reduced by 55% since the beginning of the operation. Col Mehmood said the law and order situation improved in the neighbourhood as Rangers have set up pickets in the area.
