A real ‘wolf man’ has a message for people in his story

SAN BERNARDINO, California: A man whose body and face are covered with abnormal amount of hair asks people to look beyond appearances.

Larry Gomez is looking to inspire others through his story to be confident in their own skin.

He is suffering from an incredibly rare condition called hypertrichosis, also known as ‘werewolf syndrome’.

The genetic disorder, that’s affecting less than 100 people worldwide including three of his family members, caused him to be bullied as a child, ostracizing him for his appearance.

The man has finally learned to embrace his difference and now boasts being the world’s hairiest man, Mirror reported.

With the help of his newfound confidence he has also found his love and married Alicia Martinez, whom he met while searching for an apartment seven years back.

A YouTube filmmaker Travis Hoefle recently visited the iconic ‘Wolf Man’ in a bid to make a documentary.

He said, “Larry has three other family members who suffer from the condition, spread out over five generations.”

“The women are covered with a light to medium coat of hair, while the men of the family have thick hair, covering most of their bodies.”

The filmmaker said he groomed his hair once a month, but it always grew back very quickly.

“Larry has completely embraced his difference, saying he has never known anything else – it is what it is. He’s a very nice man and loves to make jokes. I can tell he’s a very caring person and a real family man,” he said.

Travis Hoefle said the wolf man’s outlook on life was very positive and inspirational – life is hard but you have to make the best of it each and every day.

“I interviewed with him as part of my online YouTube channel ‘Wizard of Odd TV’, which documents the amazing stories of ordinary people.

“The Wizard of Odd TV sets out to entertain people but also importantly provide a positive message about life.”
