The newly elected government of Pakistan has come up with a plan to transform the ancestral home of the B’ Town legendary actor, Rishi Kapoor, located in Qissa Khwani Bazaar of Peshawar, into a museum, followed by a request from the veteran actor himself.
The Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Shah Mahmood Qureshi says that the actor has requested his family’s home in Peshawar to be converted into a museum or even an institution. “We have accepted his request,” he adds. The Interior Minister of Pakistan, Shehryar Khan Afridi explains that the ‘Kapoor and Sons’ protagonist has personally called him to preserve his ancestral residence. He further says, “We are responding positively to his request.”
“He had called me and talked about making his ancestral home into a museum. Now the federal and provincial governments are working on this and will transform the house into a museum soon,” Afridi says.
Rishi Kapoor’s ancestral
house, also known as ‘Kapoor Haveli’ was built by the actor’s great-grandfather, Baheswarnath Kapoor in Peshawar between 1918 and 1922. His son, Prithviraj Kapoor, who had been the first family member to opt for the film industry, also came to this house with his father. Moreover, Trilok Kapoor, Prithiviraj’s younger brother, and his son, Raj Kapoor were also born in the same building.
The huge Haveli has tentatively about forty rooms with exquisite overhanging balconies and astonishing floral motifs in its front. In 1990, Shashi Kapoor, his sons, Rishi Kapoor, and Randhir Kapoor visited Pakistan to see their family’s house. The Kapoors also took a small fraction of the soil from the house to keep their heritage intact.
Well, may the Kapoors come to see their heritage once it is completely transformed into a museum. What are your views on the story? Have your say in the comments’ section below.
