CHITRAL: Former military ruler Pervez Musharraf’s nomination papers for Chitral’s NA-1 constituency were rejected on Tuesday.
The All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) chief had earlier submitted the papers to the returning officer of the area through his lawyer.
Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar had allowed Musharraf to file the papers to contest July 25 polls on the condition that he would appear before the Supreme Court before June 13.
Despite that the deadline set for his appearance was extended for a day by the chief justice, he didn’t come back to the country, blocking his chances of participation in the elections.
At the previous hearing, Musharraf’s counsel informed that his client will be unable to appear in court and asked for more time.
He pleaded that the former president desired to return but needed more time due to the current situation in the country and Eidul Fitr holidays.
The court adjourned the case for an unspecified period and withdrew its directive, allowing Musharraf to file nomination papers, and asked his lawyer to let the court know when he wants the case to be heard.
