Court expresses displeasure over investigation officer in Rubab death case

KARACHI: A Karachi court on Tuesday expressed its severe displeasure over the Police officer investigating the death of Rubab Shafiq alias Hani, a model girl who died in Karachi two months ago during a botched abortion procedure, ARY News reported.

The court was informed that the Investigation Officer Rashid Mughal had gone to his village before he could submit the challan and furnish the report of exhumation of Rubab’s grave.

Upon hearing this, the court issued a show-cause notice to the officer and directed the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) West to produce the investigation officer before the court.

Rubab’s body was found dumped in a cemetery in Karachi’s Mochko area. According to police, she died at a local maternity clinic during abortion attempt.

During the autopsy, no outward marks signalling torture were found, however, one of her hand had seven while other had nine marks of injections.

Police had arrested clinic staff Rubina, Atif Shah and two others, who are currently on judicial remand.

On April 1st, the court had ordered to exhume her body for further findings. Police told the court that the department will submit its final challan in the case after finding evidences post-exhumation of Shafiq’s body.

The prime suspect in the case, Umar, remains at large.
