KARACHI: The session of the Sindh Assembly on Monday convened to discuss the budget was completed marred by chaos and ruckus.
The chaos erupted after opposition member Waseem Qureshi of the Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) criticised the government of Sindh.
“If the Sindh government allocates money for water projects, then it turns to honey. If it allocates for nutrition for starving Thar children, then it transforms into olive oil,” he said.
“As long as honey and olive oil bottles are found, Sindh will not prosper,” he said.
He said the money allocated in the budget did not belong to the Sindh government but rather the poor and affected people of the province.
He was referring to the recent incident involving former Sindh minister Sharjeel Memon as liquor bottles were recovered from his hospital room during a unannounced visit by Chief Justice of Pakistan.
However, subsequent tests stated that the bottles contained honey and oil olive, a claim that was eventually rejected by the courts and exposed incompetence of the authorities.
Earlier Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) leader Arif Mustafa Jatoi criticised Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari drawing sharp criticism from party leaders.
Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani strongly reprimanded the legislator saying that he should make a speech rather criticising party leaders.
“You have no right to speak like that. If you criticise our leader then he have the right to criticise your leader as well,” said the Speaker.
