Sadaqat Abbasi recovery case: IHC summons reports from ministry, police

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court on Wednesday summoned reports from the interior ministry and IG Police within one week over recovery of PTI’s former MNA Sadaqat Abbasi, ARY News reported.

“How could a person be picked from Parliament Lodges in red zone,” Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri questioned.

The bench expressed resentment over police, “Inquiry not yet completed? A man has been missing for 13 days and no one knows,” Justice Jahangiri remarked.

“A person picked without any case. Theft, robbery, there are scores of charges, to book someone in a case,” bench said.

“Islamabad is capital city, CCTVs have been installed, what image you are sending of it,” Justice Jahangiri questioned.

“A man released in one case being picked in another, this is inappropriate,” he added.

The court adjourned further hearing of the case till September 26.

PTI’s Babar Awan had submitted plea on behalf of Sadaqat Abbasi’s brother in the high court.

“Sadaqat Abbasi has been kidnapped by plain-clothed men, who didn’t disclose their identity,” petitioner said.

Petitioner sought the high court’s order for presenting Abbasi in the court and his release from detention.

Babar Awan talking to media in IHC premises said that the government has sought more time in the recovery case.

Sadaqat Abbasi has been kidnapped from the lodges in front of the Parliament House, he said. “If there is any charge, declare his arrest and produce him before the court,” Babar Awan said.

“In this case the contempt of court is an open but a secondary option,” lawyer said. “As per the constitution, the state even could not say, it doesn’t know about whereabouts of a person. If anyone is saying this, has been disqualified for job, he should choose another work,” the lawyer added.
