ISLAMABAD: Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Shehryar Khan has announced Sarfraz Ahmed as the new captain of Pakistan Test team.
Sarfraz has played 36 Test matches accumulating 2089 runs at an average of 40.96. He has three centuries and 13 half centuries to his credit in the format.
Earlier, Sarfraz was leading the national team as skipper in the ODI and the T20. After retirement of Misbah from the Test format, the position for the skipper was lying vacant in the longer format.
Speaking at a ceremony to honour Pakistan team after their impressive performance against India leading to title victory last month, Khan hailed the team’s show against the arch-rivals and went on to say that India was afraid of playing against Pakistan.
We challenge the Indian cricket team to come and play with us, he said.
Prime minister along other government dignitaries were present on the occasion.
Earlier, speaking at the function, PSL chairman Najam Sethi stadiums in Pakistan would soon witness revival of international cricket.
He said West Indian and Sri Lankan would soon visit Pakistan. He said transparent elections were conducted in the PCB on orders of the PM.
Sethi reiterated that the World-XI team would arrive in Pakistan in September this year.
