KARACHI: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Saturday directed the authorities concerned to pull down walls erected along Shahrah-e-Faisal and other thoroughfares of the city for the purpose of advertisement.

Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, who headed a bench of the apex court, also imposed a ban on the construction of walls for advertising purposes.

The bench was hearing a petition against the construction of walls for advertisement at the top court’s Karachi registry.

The petitioner stated that a number of walls have been put up around the city, marring the beauty of the metropolis.

The top judge asked as to who was behind the construction of these walls.

The CEO of Karachi Cantonment Board informed the judges that the cantonment has served notices on advertisement companies.

To which, the chief justice asked the CEO to take appropriate action against them and that the issuance of notices won’t be useful.

The bench directed that all walls erected for the purpose of advertisement be razed in the city and summoned a compliance report in this regard within ten days.
