SC restrains state institutions from any ‘unconstitutional move’

This observation was made by four-member SC bench headed by Chief Justice Nasirul Mulk. The SC bench was hearing a petition filed by president Supreme Court Bar Association Kamran Murtaza.

Murtaza told the court that a particular political party was questioning May 2013 general elections and making unconstitutional demands on this pretext. He said this party and all state institutions must be barred from any constitutional step.

Justice Jawwad S. Khwaja observed that placing containers and thwarting protests was against the fundamental right to citizens.

Attorney general replied that such steps were taken following provocative speeches made by opposition leaders heading the long march.

The court ruled that it bound all institutions and individuals to refrain from any unconstitutional move on pretext of the current situation.
