KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Wednesday predicted moderate to light rainfall in the metropolis from July 19 under the second monsoon spell, ARY News reported quoting Pakistan Metrological Department.
According to the Meteorological Department (MET Office) director Sardar Sarfraz, parts of Karachi are likely to receive rainfall from July 19 under monsoon spell.
In an earlier statement, Met Office informed that monsoon currents from Arabian sea are likely to penetrate in upper and central parts of the country from 12th July (evening) which are likely to intensify on 14th July.
Rain/wind-thundershower (with few heavy falls) is expected in Kashmir, (Neelum valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur), Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Kasur and Okara from 12th (evening/night) to 17th July with occasional gaps.
Rain/wind-thundershower is also expected in Barkhan, Loralai, Kalat, Khuzdar, Zhob, Lasbella, Awaran, Musakhel, D.G Khan, Rajanpur, Multan, Bhakkar, Layyah, Kot Addu, Sukkur, Jacobabad, Nagarparkar, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Sanghar, Mirpur Khas from 14th (evening/night to 16th July.
Meanwhile, Climate Change Minister Sherry Rehman urged the public and authorities concerned including non-government organisations (NGOs) to remain alert, keeping in view the urban flooding risk.
According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), there is a possibility of severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in north/northeastern Punjab, including Lahore, Sialkot and Narowal, with high or very high river flows in Chenab, Ravi, Sutlej and its associated Nullahs — Bhimber, Aik, Deg, Palkhu and Basanter — are expected.
