Senate body resents delay in completion of K-IV project

ISLAMABAD: The Senate Standing Committee on Planning was informed on Monday that ground-breaking of new Gwadar International Airport will be performed on 28th or 29th of March, ARY News reported,.

Secretary Planning Department Zafar Hassan informed the committee that a second exhibition was going to be organised in Gwadar.

The standing committee was also briefed regarding mega water project for Karachi, K-IV. “The feasibility of the project was prepared in 2007.”

Under the project, Karachi will be provided 650 million gallons of water. Initial cost of the project was Rs 28 billion.

The project director said 41 percent work on the project director had been completed.

The committee members expressed resentment over repeated delay in completion of the project and asked the project directors reasons of project’s incompletion for 12 years.

“It’s been over a decade but Karachi has not been provided its share of water,” the committee chairman said.

The Senate body chief proposed inquiry into delay in the project and feared that the project cost could increase above Rs 100 billion.

Last year in November, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah had said that K-IV, the mega water project of Karachi, had turned into a reality because of commitment of the provincial government.

Shah said that K-IV Project was planned for providing 650 MGD (1200 Cusecs) water supply to Karachi to be implemented in three phases.
