Seven drown at various spots of Karachi beach

KARACHI: At least seven youngsters drowned in the sea at different places along Karachi’s beach in the last 24 hours, ARY News reported Wednesday.

Four students were downed on Tuesday while swimming at Sandspit beach of the city. All deceased were residents of Orangi Town who had arrived at the beach with school administration for a picnic. Three bodies of the drowned teenagers were retrieved from the sea while search for the fourth drowned boy was still underway.

The deceased students have been identified as Hamza Siddiqui, Aijaz Azad, Ali Ahmed, and Hamza Zafar.

Separately, two bodies were retrieved from Do Darya, Sea View beach of the metropolis

while another was rescued in an unconscious condition who was shifted to a private hospital for medical attendance. All of them were reportedly drowned while swimming in the rough waters of the Arabian Sea.

In another incident, a body of a drowned person recovered from Sandspit beach, rescue sources said. The deceased has been identified as Bilal.

In 2014, at least 41 people died after drowning  at Seaview beach. Pakistan is ranked in the list of the countries having higher number of deaths due to drowning. The city authorities claimed to have taken significant measures in recent years to boost safety and prevent the unfortunate incidents resulting in loss of life.
