Shahid Masood made baseless allegations: Punjab govt spokesman

LAHORE: The Punjab government on Friday said that allegations by anchor Dr. Shahid Masood were completely baseless, and a mischievous attempt to detrack from the original investigation.

Punjab government spokesman Malik Ahmed Khan addressing a press conference said that the anchor made certain revelations in the Zainab rape-murder case, and subsequently an investigation team was formed to probe them.

He said that it was alleged that the main suspect, Imran Ali, had several bank accounts including foreign currency accounts, and certain documents were even submitted in the Supreme Court.

He said that a notice was sent to anchor Shahid Masood to appear before the Joint Investigation Team formed by the Punjab government, but he did turn up and no contact could be established with him.

“The anchor did not appear before the JIT and now his mobile phone is swithced,” he said.

He said that the documents submitted by Dr. Shahid Masood were unverified and bogus. This has been proved by the State Bank of Pakistan which has stated that are no bank accounts in the name of the main suspect in Zainab murder case.

“Shahid Masood has made baseless allegation and gave a false testimony,” said the spokesman. “Shahid Masood did not appear before the JIT and make false allegations.”

He said that allegations were any attempt to detrack the original investigation, and it was incomprehensible why the allegations were made.

The spokesman refused to given further information over the case as the matter is subjudice, and said the apex court is cognizant of relevant laws and will decide over the matter.
