ISLAMABAD: A district and sessions’ court on Thursday sent TV anchor Dr. Shahid Masood to jail on a judicial remand in PTV corruption case, ARY News reported.
The TV journalist was produced before the court today after expiry of his physical remand in the case.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) requested the court to extend the physical remand of Dr. Masood for probe, however the plea was rejected.
The court on Sept 14 issued arrest warrants of the TV anchor facing charges of irregularities while serving as managing director the state-owned PTV. The district and sessions’ court had also thrown out a petition of Mr Masood seeking pre-arrest bail.
A court here on Friday threw out a bail petition of television anchorperson Dr Shahid Masood in a case pertaining to the alleged financial irregularities in the state-owned PTV.
“Sufficient incriminating evidences have come on record to effect the arrest of the accused. It is, therefore, requested that non-bailable warrants of arrest of Shahid Masood may please by issued for culmination of instant investigation,” said the request filed by the FIA official.
Yesterday (Nov 28), A court in Islamabad had also issued arrest warrants for Dr Shahid Masood in a case pertaining to snatching of journalist’s cell phone.
The petitioner in his plea had said that he was deployed for coverage at the Islamabad High Court when Mr. Masood, after hurling some harsh words, snatched his cellphone. The incident had occurred a few weeks ago.
The journalist whose cellphone was snatched by Shahid Masood had also filed a case at Ramna Police Station in the capital city.
