ISLAMABAD: In an apparent move to silent critics, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) parliamentary board on Thursday issued party tickets to prominent leaders Shehryar Afridi, Shaukat Yousfzai and Firdous Ashiq Awan for 2018 general elections, ARY News reported.
According to a statement issued by the party after a meeting of parliamentary board, former MNA Shehryar Afridi, former provincial minister Shaukat Yousafzai and Firdous Ashiq Awan were awarded party tickets for upcoming polls.
Firdous Awan will contest from NA-72 in Sialkot while Shehryar Afridi will contest for a National Assembly seat in Kohat.
Meanwhile Shaukat Yousafzai and prominent female leader Hamida Shahid will get party tickets for provincial assembly seats from Shangla and Dir respectively.
The party statement points out that Dir is a place where sometimes women are not even allowed to vote so PTI is fielding a female candidate Hamida Shahid to discourage the prevalent trend in the area.
The move comes after the party was criticised for ignoring prominent leaders and workers while issuing tickets in the first phase of the exercise.

Former MNA Ali Muhammad Khan and Babar Awan are still waiting for their party tickets. Ali Muhammad Khan also claimed that certain elements are against him in the party but expressed hope that Imran Khan will prefer him over “turncoats” and “NAB-affected” politicians.
