Rasheed condemns Dera Murad Jamali train attack

LAHORE: Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed on Sunday strongly denounced the train attack and termed it is a dastardly act of terrorists, Radio Pakistan reported.

In a statement, he said the state will deal with terrorists with iron hands.

Rasheed said relief and rescue operation continues at the site of the blast.

He said patrolling of rail tracks will be made effective in cooperation with law enforcing agencies.

Earlier in the day, three coaches of a passenger train derailed owing to a blast on a railway track near Shaheed Aziz Billo check post in Dera Murad Jamali, killing at least three people, including a woman.

According to police, several other passengers also sustained injuries as a result of the incident.

Last year in October, a blast had damaged at least 10 feet of railway tracks near Machh, Balochistan.

The Jaffar Express was travelling to Punjab when the driver saw an explosive device on the track and applied the brakes. The train didn’t suffer damage nor were passengers wounded as a result of quick action on the part of the driver.

In a similar incident, Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) officials had in May last year found an explosive device kept in a pressure cooker near a railway track in the Dasht town of Kharan district. They managed to defuse the bomb in time.
