PESHAWAR: Federal Minister Information and Broadcasting Shibli Faraz on Monday termed Supreme Court’s (SC) judgement in presidential reference historic and hoped that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will ensure transparency in the upcoming Senate elections.
Talking to the media persons in Peshawar on Monday, he said the apex court has directed the Election Commission of Pakistan to use the latest technology and take the necessary steps to ensure transparency in the polls.
He said the court has also ruled that the secrecy of the ballot is not permanent.
Shibli Faraz said for the interpretation of article 226, the government moved SC as the legislation was halted due to opposition’s behaviour.

We have witnessed who is fighting for transparency in the election system and who is not, the minister said.
While hoping for Hafeez Sheikh’s victory in the Senate polls, Shibli Faraz revealed that there are differences among Pakistan Democratic (PDM) parties over the nomination of Yousuf Raza Gilani as a joint candidate of the alliance.
The information minister asked the Election Commission of Pakistan to take requisite steps for ensuring transparency in the Senate elections in the light of the Supreme Court’s decision.
