SIC calls off protest after commissioner’s assurance

The 12 hour sit-in was ended after successful negotiations between the protesters and commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui and AIG Karachi Ghulam Qadir Thebo.

Siddiqui told media that a medical board and an investigation team will be formed to reveal the reasons behind Tariq Mehboob’s custodial death.

Protesters dispersed after the announcement of agreement by SIC leader Shahid Ghauri.

A couple of days ago Pakistan Rangers Sindh arrested Tariq Mehboob and produced before an Anti-Terrorism Court, which granted 90 days detention of the accused for investigation.

Rangers had detained him in Central Prison Karachi. The jail administration claimed that Mehboob died of cardiac arrest and his death was natural.

Tariq Mehboob was serving as Joint Secretary of Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) and chief of Anjuman Naujawanan-e Islam (ANI).
