KARACHI: A meeting of Sindh Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Thursday approved compensation for the affected people of Thar Coalfield and Gorano reservoir, ARY News reported.
Gorano reservoir is a water pond artificially created on 1,500 acres of land being filled with saline water pumped out from Thar’s coalfield. It is situated in Taluka Islamkot of Thar district some 30 kilometres away from Islamkot Town.
The cabinet meeting approved compensation for 575 affected families, Rs. One Lac for each family, due to the artificially created reservoir.
The provincial cabinet also decided that the sugarcane will be purchased from the growers in Sindh at Rs. 182 per maund and the crushing season will begin from November 30 this year.
The cabinet session also delegated the powers of release of the prisoners on temporary parole to the provincial home secretary. The power to take decision about granting B Class facility in jails also handed over to the home secretary.
The cabinet also approved Rs. 10 million relief for the family of police constable Farooq, who was martyred in a terrorist attack in Karachi on distinguished religious scholar Mufti Taqi Usmani. The meeting also approved a plot and two jobs for the family members of the martyred policeman.
Sindh cabinet also approved Rs. Five Lac each for the families of three labourers recently murdered in Larkana.
