KARACHI: A cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah decided to relieve A.D. Khawaja from his services as Inspector General Sindh three days after the court declared the Sindh government order to remove the top cop from his post, ARY News reported.
On Saturday, Allah Dino Khawaja was removed from his post and Sardar Abdul Majeed Dasti was given a temporary and additional charge of IG Sindh but on Monday Sindh High Court (SHC) suspended the notification issued to remove Khawaja and directing him to continue his work as IG Sindh.
The court was hearing a petition terming his removal as ‘contempt of court’ and violation of the court’s stay order.
The bench queried whether Sindh government had approached the Supreme Court of Pakistan in wake of court’s stay orders in the case before removing IG Sindh from his post.
The SHC order came in two identical petitions filed by civil society organisations, seeking reforms in the policing system by repealing the outdated Police Act of 1861 and restoration of the Police Order 2002.
