KARACHI: As Christmas and New Year approach, the government of Sindh has imposed a ‘complete ban’ on visiting beaches on the weekend, December 31 and on the first day of 2017, ARY News reported on Saturday.
In an official notification issued by the Interior Ministry of Sindh, people in Karachi would be barred from visiting beaches on December 24, 25, 31 and January 1, 2017.
If any found violating the ban, strict action would be taken against them as per the law, said the notification.
However, the provincial interior ministry did not explain any particular reason for imposing the four-day ban.
Expecting that a huge number of people would be visiting beaches on Christmas and New Year’s Eve, every year, officials claim that such a ban was important and necessary in Karachi because the police needed a legal cover to stop people from going deep into the sea and it also serves as a sort of public awareness campaign.
