Sindh LG by-elections: Polling concludes in 24 districts

KARACHI: The polling for Sindh LG by-elections in 24 districts of the province including Karachi was concluded, ARY News reported on Sunday.

The polling that began at 8 am continued till 5pm without any break. A total of 302 polling stations have been established in 172 buildings for these elections.

There are 690,295 registered voters in the said districts.

In Karachi, the elections were conducted in UC 1 and 2 Orangi town and UC-8 Mominabad in district west, in Korangi district UC-2 Korangi, UC-8 Landhi and UC-2 of Shah Faisal town also observed by-elections along with UC-4 and 13 New Karachi, UC-6 North Nazimabad of district central.

On March 27, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) released the party position after re-poll results in 15 districts of Sindh during LG polls.

Meanwhile, in district Kemari election would be held on UC-2 Baldia Town along with UC-2 Layari town of district South.

Strict security measures have been put in place to avoid any untoward incident.

According to the ECP, the Pakistan People’s Party has the upper hand in 7 out of 11 seats of the district member while the PPP has won 10 out of 16 seats of the chairman and vice chairman. Similarly, PPP candidates have grabbed 22 of the 32 seats of the General Members۔

In the re-poll, the GDA won one seat for the district member while the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf won one seat of the chairman and vice chairman.
