Six die as Farid Express runs over rickshaw in Haveli Lakha

OKARA: At least six people including from a family were killed as Karachi bound Farid Express ran over a rickshaw at a railway crossing in Haveli Lakha, ARY News reported on Wednesday.

The reports say that a rickshaw carrying labourers was hit by Farid Express at a railway crossing near Baseerpur station leaving six people dead. According to reports the deceased included four members of a family.

According to eyewitnesses, no railway watchman was posted at the railway crossing. The rickshaw while crossing the railway track came under the wheels of the fast approaching Farid Express.

The injured and dead bodies were transferred to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital.

Around 21 persons including nine children have been killed in accidents at unmanned railway crossings in 39 days of the current year.

Railway Minister Khawaja Saad Rafiq has ordered an inquiry into the accident.
