Nintendo has made the surprise announcement a day prior to the scheduled release date that Super Mario Run is available on Android.
Super Mario Run, the first Mario game for smartphones, is a free download that comes with a trial of the World Tour, Toad Rally, and Kingdom Builder modes and several courses are included for free.
However, the full game is available through a single in-app purchase of $9.99 but there are no micro-transactions.
The game has also received a new update on iPhone and iPad, bringing new features to both customers who have purchased the full game and even those who have not played the game.
Super Mario Run is an endless runner, a genre of game which tests concentration and reflexes. Mario will run across the screen, with the player in control of when he jumps, and how high he jumps.
The release comes about three months after Super Mario Run was launched on iOS in December.
The game was an instant hit with Apple users, racking 40 million downloads in first four days to become the fastest selling iOS game in the history of the App Store.
