The court dismissed the appeal of the Customs authorities and allowed the model to travel out of the country. Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan was heading a three-member bench.
The verdict seems to be welcome news for Ayyan, since it means that she does not have to make regular appearances at courts and is free to travel without any restrictions. Attached below is the copy of the detailed judgment:-
Earlier, the Sindh High Court had ordered Ayyan’s name to be removed from the ECL after which Customs authorities and the Ministry of Interior filed four applications in the Supreme Court. However, the decision of the Sindh High Court was upheld by the Supreme Court who issued orders for Ayyan’s name to be removed from the Exit Control List.
According to the five-paged report, the court remarked “No citizen can be barred from traveling abroad till a crime has been proven against him/her.”
The court also stated that Ayyan had not indulged in any monetary fraud. Ayyan had stated that her mother was undergoing treatment in Dubai for which she wanted to travel abroad.
The supermodel had been arrested on charges of money laundering last year in March after more than USD 500,000 were recovered from her luggage. Ayyan was about to board a Dubai-bound flight from the Islamabad airport when security officials arrested her. On charges of money laundering, she was sent to Adiala jail for four months before she was released on bail.
